Welcome to the hatch.

It’s official — as of the 4th of July, Broody‑pendence day 🎊, Broody is open. Passionate breeders (😅), fertile hatching eggs, and secure checkout.

Go find your next flock — and if you keep poultry yourself, there’s a free shop here with your name on it.

We’d still love your input! Send us feedback via the contact form, or post a feature request once you’re signed in.

About Broody

A breeder and an engineer met by accident.

We're building the marketplace we wished existed when we were on the other side of it. This page is the long version of why.

Kayleigh

Co-founder · Breeder

Kayleigh has spent years breeding heritage poultry. She loves the eggs and the lineage and the quiet morning rounds — but she didn't love what came after.

Listing on the existing platforms felt like wading through stock-photo websites built for craft fairs. Hidden fees, brittle search, no way to communicate breed lineage properly. She wanted something that respected the craft.

Chris

Co-founder · Engineer

Chris keeps a small flock at home and has been writing software for twenty-odd years. He came at this from the other end: a happy hobbyist who quietly noticed how badly the tooling was letting sellers down.

"If you've ever shipped a product on top of a generic e-commerce template, you can spot one a mile away. Hatching eggs deserve better than a cookie-cutter shop."

Right alongside us are Lloyd (Kayleigh's husband), Jess (Chris's wife), and our kids. We're a small family business with serious professional expertise — and we like it that way.

A trade · 2024
"We met by accident trading chucks. One conversation in, we realised we'd both been quietly designing the same marketplace in our heads."
— Kayleigh & Chris, the founding story

Built bespoke, not bolted together.

Every other platform we tried felt like a craft-fair website with eggs duct-taped on.

No "gender" field Listing eggs is a one-page form that asks the questions that actually matter.
A real breed database Search and filter by breed, lineage, and traits — not by free-text tags.
Buyer-first detail Every breed page is informative, so buyers know what they're buying.
Tailored search Discovery built around how people actually shop for hatching eggs.

Most hatching-egg sellers we knew were squeezing their listings onto e-commerce platforms not specialised for marketplaces — buried in Facebook groups, or marketplaces built on off-the-shelf platforms designed to sell T-shirts, not hatching eggs. They sort of work — but they're clunky at best, poor eggsBay-style rip-offs at the middle, and expensive for what they give you as a seller at worst.

They want you to pick a gender for a clutch of fertilised eggs, or ask for a barcode. Or your listing disappears into the void of red-mite DE vs. fire conversations in social media. None of it fits — and you pay a monthly subscription for the privilege, or waste hours scrabbling around ten Facebook groups. It's hard work.

Broody is built from the ground up for one thing: hatching eggs and the people who care about them. Twenty years of software engineering went into the foundations, so the simple things stay simple — and nobody has to fight the tools.

We do well when you do.

No subscription fees. Ever. Just clear, tiered commission that shrinks as you sell more. We're a real business — the money pays our team and reinvests in the platform, but we'd rather grow with you than charge for the privilege of selling.

Trust, with skin in the game.

For pure-breed and rare-breed listings, we built a mechanism that puts something on the line.

Buying pure-breed eggs online has always required a leap of faith — buyers can't verify lineage from a listing photo. Assured Pure is our answer: sellers who opt in stake £2 per sale on their reputation, and their listings earn priority placement in search.

It's not a badge for show. It's a small, public commitment that costs nothing to a seller who's straight, and meaningfully bites for one who isn't. Serious buyers and serious sellers want the same thing: confidence on both sides of the transaction.

Built in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 for the whole of the UK.

We're proudly small, proudly local, and proudly here. Broody is made in Wales by two people who care about getting this right — for breeders and buyers in every corner of the country.
