Award Winning
What the mauve rosette means, how a breeder earns it, and what it does - and doesn't - promise. The short version: the breeder won at a poultry show, showed Broody the rosette or prize card, and puts £1 of their own money behind every order.
What Award Winning means
Award Winning marks hatching eggs from birds that have done well at a poultry show. When a listing carries the mauve rosette, the breeder has:
- Named the win - the show, the year and their placing, such as "Royal Welsh Show 2026 · 1st, Large Fowl", shown on the listing.
- Shown the rosette or prize card - in their own photos, which you can open and enlarge, and which Broody checks.
- Staked £1 on every order - taken from the seller's own payout, never added to your price.
- Accepted the consequence - claiming an award they did not win is grounds for suspension from Broody.
In return, Award Winning listings rank above standard ones in search, level with Assured Pure, and buyers can filter for them.
How a seller earns the rosette
- It is switched on per listing, from the listing form, for any listing: hybrids, crosses and pure breeds alike.
- The seller names the show, the year and their placing, and adds one to three photos of the rosette or prize card - with the bird, if they can.
- Broody checks the photos as they upload, and the listing can only carry the rosette once one of them shows a rosette or prize card. If our check can't see one, the seller can retake the photo or ask Broody to look, and the rosette shows once we've approved it.
- The £1 stake is deducted from the seller's payout on each Award Winning order, on top of Broody's commission. An order carrying Assured Pure as well costs the seller £1.50 for the pair, not £2.
Sellers can see the exact arithmetic in the seller agreement.
What it covers
- The show, year and placing the seller named.
- The photos of the rosette or prize card on the listing.
- The breeder's note about the win, when they've added one.
What it does not guarantee
- Broody checks the photos show a rosette or prize card. The win itself is the seller's word, backed by their stake and their standing on Broody.
- It is about the award, not the breed. For a breeder's declaration of breed purity, look for Assured Pure.
- It says nothing about fertility, hatch rate or sex ratio, and a win by the parents is no promise the chicks will win in turn.
Where you will see it

Questions people ask
- Can a hybrid or a cross be Award Winning?
- Yes. Any listing can carry the rosette: hybrids, crosses and pure breeds alike. Shows have classes for all of them, and a win is a win.
- Does Award Winning cost buyers anything?
- Nothing. The £1 stake comes out of the seller’s payout on each Award Winning order. It is never added to your price.
- What if a listing is Assured Pure and Award Winning?
- It shows both badges, the golden egg and the rosette, and the seller pays £1.50 an order for the pair rather than £2.
- How old can the award be?
- The listing always shows the year of the show, so you can judge for yourself how recent the win is.
- What happens if a seller misrepresents an award?
- Message the seller from your order page. A seller shown to have claimed an award they did not win is suspended from Broody, with the reason on record.
