About the Amber Star
Often described as 'amber', the Amber Star's plumage is predominantly white overlaid with light red or brown flecking, giving each hen a softly marked, easily recognisable look set off by very fine, soft feathering. A Rhode Island Red-based commercial hybrid, she is a placid, friendly back-garden layer that comes into lay young and produces up to around 300 brown eggs a year. As a hybrid she won't breed true, but as a calm, prolific everyday hen she is hard to beat.
