About the Blue Appenzeller Spitzhauben
The blue is a self (unspangled) variety in even slate-blue, typically with darker shading over the head, neck, saddle and wing-bows. Like the chamois it is a more recent introduction beyond the three original colours, recognised by the EE but not separately standardised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain, which makes it among the scarcer Appenzellers in the UK. It otherwise keeps the breed's crest, small V-comb and lively free-range nature, laying white eggs.
