About the Black-Red Araucana
The black-red is the classic 'wild-type' game colouring: cocks show a rich orange-red hackle, back and saddle over a black breast and tail, while hens are partridge-brown bodied with a salmon breast. It is one of the foundation colours of the standard and the pattern from which the duckwing, pile and crele varieties genetically derive. A blue-egg layer in keeping with the breed.
