About the Lavender Araucana
The lavender carries the recessive lavender gene, diluting black to a soft, even blue-grey across the whole bird with no lacing. It is the colour most closely tied to the British Araucana's history, true-breeding lavender having been fixed by George Malcolm in 1930s Scotland, and it remains by far the most popular and widely kept variety. As with all Araucanas it lays the breed's signature blue eggs.
