About the Black Australorp
The original and most widely recognised Australorp, a dense glossy black carrying the breed's hallmark beetle-green sheen across the plumage. Black is the only variety accepted by the American Poultry Association and is standardised everywhere the breed is kept, including the Poultry Club of Great Britain. This is the colour of the 1920s record-laying strains, pairing that productivity with the breed's calm temperament and abundant light-brown eggs.
