About the Blue Australorp
An even slate-blue bird produced by a single copy of the blue dilution gene acting on the breed's black base, typically showing darker lacing on the neck and saddle. Blue is recognised in Australia, by the Poultry Club of Great Britain and the Entente Européenne, though not by the APA. Because blue does not breed true, blue-to-blue matings yield roughly half blue alongside black and splash offspring, while retaining the Australorp's laying ability and gentle nature.
