About the Splash Australorp
A pale variety in which two copies of the blue dilution gene leave a white-to-grey ground splashed with irregular slate-blue markings. Splash is recognised by the Poultry Club of South Africa but not by the APA, Australia or the Poultry Club of Great Britain, making it uncommon in the UK. Genetically it is the by-product of blue breeding: splash bred to black gives all blue, and it is bred for the same prolific light-brown laying and calm temperament as the standard Australorp.
