About the Black Barnevelder
A solid, self-black Barnevelder with a green beetle sheen and no lacing or pattern. It arose from darker sports of the early birds, fixed with Black Plymouth Rock and Black Wyandotte blood, and was accepted by the Dutch club in the 1920s; it is one of the four colours the British standard recognises. Beneath the plain plumage it remains the same hardy, productive dual-purpose breed laying rich brown eggs.
