About the Kennfarbig Bielefelder
Kennfarbig (German kennsperber) is the Bielefelder's original and defining colour: a crele or cuckoo red-partridge pattern combining black-breasted red ground colour with cuckoo barring, giving warm gold, brown and grey feathering. Crucially, this is the colour that carries the breed's autosexing trait — day-old cockerel chicks show a pale dot on the head while pullets are darker with brown back stripes — inherited from its Barred Rock ancestry. It is the foundation variety, recognised by the Bund Deutscher Rassegeflügelzüchter in 1980, on a large, calm dual-purpose bird that lays good numbers of brown eggs.
