About the Blue Breda
Blue Bredas carry one copy of the blue dilution gene, which softens black to an even slate-blue self colour. Because blue does not breed true, pairing two blues yields roughly half blue, a quarter black and a quarter splash. Only a limited number of blue birds came through in the breed's 20th-century imports, so the colour remains scarce on an already rare breed that keeps the Breda's combless head, vulture hocks and feathered legs.
