About the Buff Barred Buffbar
The buff barred plumage is what defines the Buffbar: a warm golden-buff body overlaid with the soft, indistinct barring carried in from Barred Plymouth Rock. It is this single sex-linked colour pattern that makes the breed autosexing, since cockerel chicks (a double dose of the barring gene) hatch noticeably paler than pullets, allowing accurate day-old sexing. A scarce British heritage layer from the Cambridge autosexing programme, the buff barred Buffbar is kept today almost entirely by enthusiasts of the autosexing breeds.
