About the Buff Catalana
The defining and by far the most common colour of the Catalana, the Buff carries rich buff plumage running from light tan to a deeper red-gold, set off by a black tail that shimmers green in the light; males add an iridescent green sheen to the sickles and reddish-buff hackles and saddle. With white earlobes, a single comb and the breed's characteristic bluish-slate shanks, it is the only variety recognised in the APA Standard of Perfection (admitted 1949). Hardy and heat-tolerant, this dual-purpose Mediterranean fowl remains scarce outside Spain.
