About the "Cheshire Blue"

The "blue" in Cheshire Blue is the egg, not the bird: she is predominantly white, carrying a Legbar-style crest and often some darker flecking through the plumage. Both the crest and the blue egg trace back to the Legbar in her parentage - the same blue-egg gene behind Britain's other back-garden blue layers. Suppliers differ a little on output, quoting 260 to 280 sky-blue, medium-to-large eggs through a strong first year. As an unstandardised hybrid neither her markings nor the precise egg shade breed true. The true Cheshire Blue is exclusively bred by Creag Mhor Poultry who began breeding them in 2011. It is a commercial hybrid chicken, and not a standardised breed and therefore not officially recognised by poultry governing bodies like the Poultry Club of Great Britain. Hatching eggs under the "Cheshire Blue" grouping sold on Broody, or sold elsewhere for that matter, are really "Cheshire Blue Like", unless they are supplied directly or indirectly by Creag Mhor Poultry.
