About the Black Cubalaya
A self-black variety with beetle-green lustre over the whole bird, set apart from the other two colours by its dark horn beak and slate-coloured legs rather than the red's pinkish-white shanks. It is one of the three colours of the original Cuban standard, recognised by the APA and ABA, and the rarest to find. The black retains the breed's pea comb, bright-red face and the distinctive low lobster tail.
