About the Barred Dominique
The Dominique is recognised in only one colour: the cuckoo-barred 'hawk' pattern of soft, irregular slate-grey and white bars that vary in width and angle across each feather, giving a hazier, less sharply defined look than the Barred Plymouth Rock. Paired with the breed's defining rose comb (single-combed barred birds became Plymouth Rocks under the 1870s standards), the camouflaging barring helps conceal these hardy, frost-tolerant dual-purpose hens from predators while they forage.
