About the Gold Penciled Fayoumi

The gold pencilled carries the identical pencilled pattern to the silver bird but on a warm golden-brown base instead of silver-white, so the head, neck and hackle read gold over a finely pencilled body. It is the second of the two colours the Poultry Club of Great Britain recognises in this rare soft-feather light breed; like the silver, chicks hatch brown before the adult colour develops. It shares the breed's defining traits — an alert, flighty Egyptian forager, quick-maturing and notably disease-resistant, laying a steady supply of small pale eggs.
