About the Silver Penciled Fayoumi
The silver pencilled is the original and most familiar Fayoumi colour: a silver-white head, neck and hackle (and saddle in the cock) above a body broken into fine black-and-white pencilling, giving a barred-looking pattern likened to the Brakel. Despite the appearance the breed is genetically pencilled rather than truly barred, and chicks of both colours hatch brown before the silver feathers come through. Like all Fayoumis it is recognised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain as a rare soft-feather light breed, prized as a heat-hardy, disease-resistant forager laying small pale eggs.
