About the Red Shouldered Friesian Fowl
A small, ancient breed from the Friesland coast of the northern Netherlands, the Friesian fowl has been kept there for around a thousand years. Light, active and hardy, it is a tireless forager (and an accomplished flier, so it needs good fencing), most admired in its delicately pencilled plumage. Hens are good layers of white eggs — a charming rare breed for the keen smallholder.
