About the Black Hamburg
The Black Hamburg is a self-coloured variety carrying a deep beetle-green sheen over solid black plumage, the only self colour among the British-recognised Hamburgs. It is recognised by both the Poultry Club of Great Britain and the American Poultry Association, which standardised it in 1874. It retains the breed's rose comb, lively foraging habit and glossy white eggs and, like the patterned varieties, is now bred mainly for show.
