About the Gold Penciled Hamburg

The Gold Pencilled shows the same transverse barring as the silver bird but over a coppery-yellow ground rather than creamy white, again with the 'pencilling' really being fine dark cross-bars. It is one of the Dutch-origin pencilled varieties, long known in Holland, as distinct from the English spangled lines. It keeps the Hamburg's neat rose comb, restless forager's energy and glossy white eggs, and is principally an exhibition breed today.
