About the Silver Penciled Hamburg
The Silver Pencilled has a clear creamy-white ground crossed by several fine parallel dark bars on the hen's body feathers; the term 'pencilled' is a historic misnomer, as the markings are technically transverse barring rather than concentric pencilling. This pencilled type is of Dutch origin, unlike the English-bred spangled Hamburgs. It carries the breed's rose comb, sprightly foraging nature and glossy white eggs and is now largely an exhibition fowl.
