About the White Ixworth
White is the Ixworth's sole standardised colour and a defining feature: the plumage is pure, brilliant white, short, silky and close-fitting, set off by a pea comb, red face and earlobes, and white beak, shanks, feet, skin and flesh. The clean white skin and flesh were deliberate, suiting Appleyard's 1932 dual-purpose table bird, and there are no recognised colour variants. A rare breed that nearly vanished in the 1970s, it is maintained today mainly through the Rare Poultry Society.
