About the Birchen Japanese Bantam
Birchen (silver birchen) carries a black ground with crisp silvery-white striping confined to the head and hackles, plus a saddle in cocks; the upper breast feathers are black, each finely laced with silvery white, and the body and tail are solid black. Standardised as 'birchen grey' on the Entente Européenne list of recognised Japanese Bantam colours, it lends this short-legged Chabo a striking monochrome contrast against its huge upright tail.
