About the Black Leghorn
Solid black with a beetle-green sheen in good light, the Black Leghorn is one of the long-recognised self-coloured forms in both the British and American standards. The contrast of glossy black plumage against the bright red single comb, face and wattles and the breed's signature pure-white earlobes is striking. Underneath the colour it is a true Leghorn: alert, active and a reliable layer of white eggs.
