About the Brown Leghorn
The most colourful of the family, the Brown Leghorn shows the wild-type pattern: cocks carry orange-gold black-striped hackles and saddle with a black breast and tail, while hens are a warm reddish/olive-brown with darker wing markings and a salmon breast. In Britain 'Brown' is the umbrella colour later split in some standards into light and dark forms. It keeps the Leghorn's active nature and steady output of white eggs.
