About the Dark Brown Leghorn
The Dark Brown is the deeper, male-line counterpart to the Light Brown: cocks blaze with mahogany, fiery dark red and lustrous greenish-black, and hens carry a richer, darker pencilled brown than the Light Brown. Genetically it is brown-based (eb) with mahogany and red enhancers, which deepens the colour. The APA recognised Light and Dark Brown as separate show varieties by 1923. A hardy, productive white-egg layer.
