About the Exchequer Leghorn
The Exchequer is a distinctively Scottish variety, developed by Robert Miller around 1904 from a flock of White Leghorns; its black-and-white plumage — ideally evenly distributed checkering all over — and the egg revenue it earned gave it the 'Exchequer' name. Unlike laced or mottled blacks, the colour is spread in irregular black and white patches across the whole bird. It lays nearly as freely as the White Leghorn.
