About the Lincolnshire Buff
Buff is the breed's sole and defining colour, but it is a deeper, warmer "ginger buff" rather than the pale even gold of a Buff Orpington. Cocks carry rich orange hackles, copper and chestnut wing coverts and bronze-to-copper tail feathers, with small amounts of umber (a dull, sheenless near-black) permitted on flights and axials; hens are an even ginger buff shading darker toward the tail tip. It clothes the breed's distinctive longer-backed, tighter-feathered five-toed frame, and the absence of the fifth toe is a disqualification under standard.
