About the Lohmann Brown
The Lohmann Brown is a single-colour commercial hybrid: a warm orange- to caramel-brown bird with cream highlights around the neck and lightly reddish-tinged tail feathers, the visible result of its New Hampshire and Rhode Island brown-egg parentage. As a sex-linked cross, female chicks hatch reddish-brown while males hatch pale yellow, allowing day-old sexing. Developed by Lohmann in Germany in 1984, she is docile and exceptionally prolific, laying brown eggs from around 19 weeks at up to roughly 300+ a year.
