About the Black-Red Malay
The black-red (black-breasted red) is the original and most numerous Malay colour, described in Britain's first Book of Standards in 1865 and the first variety admitted to the APA Standard in 1883. Cocks carry the classic gamefowl pattern — bright orange-red hackle, back and shoulders over a lustrous greenish-black breast, tail and underbody — with rich partridge-marked hens. It shows off the breed's towering, hard-feathered build and beetle-browed head better than any other colour.
