About the Blue Splash Marans

The Blue Splash carries two copies of the blue-dilution gene, producing a pale, off-white plumage irregularly streaked and dappled with soft blue-grey and fawn-copper splashes — the markings can even reach the legs. Bred mainly within Black Copper blue lines, splash birds breed true and, crossed back to black-based stock, throw the prized coppery-blue offspring. Like all Marans they lay the breed's famously dark chocolate-brown eggs, though Blue and Splash sit outside the official French and British standards.
