About the Cuckoo Marans

The Cuckoo (Dark Cuckoo) is the original and most widespread Marans colour, carrying the dominant barring gene over a black base to give the characteristic irregular black-and-grey banded feathering; hens are noticeably darker than the lighter, more silvery cocks. It is one of the long-standardised UK colours (clean-legged in the British standard) and remains a dependable layer of the breed's famously dark, glossy chocolate-brown eggs.
