About the Blue Naked Neck
Blue plumage gives a soft, even slate-grey self colour, the result of a single dose of the blue dilution gene acting on black; pairing blue birds throws blue, black and splash offspring rather than breeding fully true. Blue is recognised in the full UK standard but is not accepted by the American Poultry Association. Over the breed's bare red neck it makes a distinctive, uncommon bird, otherwise the usual hardy dual-purpose forager laying light-brown eggs.
