About the New Hampshire Red
The sole recognised colour: a brilliant medium-to-light chestnut red, distinctly paler and more buff-toned than the deep mahogany of its Rhode Island Red ancestor, often with pale yellow highlights that bleach lighter in sunlight. The tail is black, with greenish-black sickles in cocks, and wing and lower-neck feathers are edged in black on hens. Admitted to the APA Standard in 1935 in this single colour, it carries the breed's fast-growing, quick-feathering dual-purpose build and a steady supply of brown eggs.
