About the Silver Black Norfolk Grey
The Norfolk Grey's sole recognised colour is the silver-black: cocks carry silver-white neck, back, saddle, shoulder coverts and wing bars with black-striped hackles over an otherwise solid-black body, while hens are rich black save for a delicately silver-laced throat (about 5cm) and silver-striped hackle. This crisp lacing on black is the breed's signature look. A hardy British dual-purpose bird, it lays tinted eggs and finishes as a fine slow-grown table fowl, and remains rare after nearly dying out in the 1970s.
