About the Birchen Old English Game
The birchen (or grey) cock shows a silver-white hackle and saddle, each feather narrowly striped with black, over a black body with a finely silver-laced upper breast; hens are black with a laced breast and silvery hackle. Recognised in both the Carlisle (as birchen/grey) and Oxford standards, it is one of the crisp black-and-silver heritage patterns of this ancient British game fowl.
