About the Wheaten Old English Game
Wheaten refers chiefly to the hen, which is a pale, even golden-wheat colour with a darker tail and hackle, the cock being a black-red type; the Carlisle standard recognises both black-red (wheaten) and blue-tailed wheaten hen forms. The soft wheaten hen plumage is one of the classic hen colours of this ancient British game fowl.
