About the Red Orpington
A rich, even self-red Orpington carrying the breed's deep, soft-feathered bulk in a warm mahogany-red coat. A historical colour attributed to W. Holmes Hunt around 1910-1912, it never reached the popularity of the Buff and remains rare and unstandardised today. Like all Orpingtons it is a calm, cold-hardy dual-purpose bird and a dependable brown-egg layer.
