About the Black Penedesenca
The Black (Negra) is the original and most numerous Penedesenca, with solid glossy black plumage, dark-horn beak and dark slate shanks and toes. Unlike the three lighter egg-laying varieties it was developed as a heavier dual-purpose bird. It shares the breed's lobed 'carnation' comb and lays the same exceptionally dark chocolate-brown eggs that rival the Marans.
