About the Crele Penedesenca
The Crele (Barrada) is the breed's autosexing variety, carrying barred plumage over a partridge base so chicks can be sexed at hatch — cockerels emerge light ash-grey, pullets a darker nut-brown. Adults show near-white beak, shanks and toes, setting it apart from the slate-legged varieties. A lighter laying type, it still lays the Penedesenca's intensely dark chocolate-brown eggs beneath the lobed carnation comb.
