About the Black-Breasted Red Phoenix
The Black-Breasted Red is the wild-type pattern: cocks pair a lustrous black breast and tail with rich orange-red hackle, back and saddle, while hens are salmon-breasted and brown-bodied. It was the most recent of the three colours admitted to the APA Standard of Perfection, accepted in 2018, and is among the more familiar long-tailed Phoenix colours. As with the breed as a whole, it is an ornamental show bird laying only a modest number of pale eggs.
