About the Blue Phoenix
A self-blue (Andalusian-blue) Phoenix: the black ground plumage is diluted by the heterozygous blue gene to an even slaty grey-blue, the male's hackle, saddle and long flowing tail darkening to a deeper steel-blue. As a blue bird it does not breed true — pairings throw roughly 25% black, 50% blue and 25% splash. Blue is offered by breeders and hatcheries but is not among the Phoenix colours standardised in Germany (gold, silver, orange, black, white, partridge), by the Entente Européenne, or by the APA (silver, golden, black-breasted red), making it an uncommon ornamental colour form of this long-tailed exhibition breed.
