About the Black Plymouth Rock
Self-black throughout with the lustrous beetle-green sheen prized in solid-black fowl, a structural iridescence rather than pigment and usually richest on the male. The Black is one of the five Plymouth Rock varieties recognised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain, though it is far less common than the Barred. Beneath the dark plumage it is the same hardy, even-tempered dual-purpose bird laying around 200 brown eggs a year.
