About the Blue Plymouth Rock
A smoky blue-grey bird, often with darker lacing and near-black neck feathering, the colour produced by the blue dilution gene acting on black. Because blue is a heterozygous effect it does not breed wholly true: blue-to-blue matings yield roughly half blue plus black and splash birds. One of the seven APA-recognised varieties and relatively uncommon, the Blue carries the same hardy, dual-purpose temperament as the rest of the breed.
