About the White Plymouth Rock
Solid, clean white throughout, the White Plymouth Rock arose from white sports in Barred Rock flocks in Maine around 1875 and was admitted to the APA Standard in 1888. Its recessive white plumage breeds true once fixed. Historically the most commercially important variety, White Rock hens became the standard female line crossed with Cornish males to create the modern broiler, reflecting the breed's strong meat-and-egg dual purpose.
