About the Black Rhode Rock
The Black Rhode Rock carries the hybrid's signature plumage: glossy near-black feathers that catch an iridescent green sheen in sunlight, broken by warm gold through the neck and often spilling onto the chest. This colouring comes straight from crossing a Rhode Island Red with a Barred Plymouth Rock, the same pairing that gives the hen her hardy, placid temperament and steady output of around 280-300 mid-brown eggs a year.
