About the Red Barred Rhodebar
The Rhodebar's sole and defining colour: a deep red ground carrying fine barring throughout, with black-and-silver barred tails. The barring is the genetic basis of its autosexing trait — at a day old cockerels hatch plain yellow while pullets show dark dorsal stripes and an eye-line. Standardised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain in the early 1950s, it remains a Rhode Island Red-derived dual-purpose utility layer of tinted-brown eggs, now an RBST priority-listed rarity.
