About the Barred Scots Grey
The Scots Grey carries the breed's only recognised colour: a steel-grey ground crossed by black, metallically-lustred barring, with the bands of equal width across each feather. The markings run larger and bolder on the hens, giving the prized tartan-like effect, while cocks show finer patterning. Beneath this distinctive plumage is a tall, active dual-purpose Scottish bird that forages tirelessly, lays cream eggs and seldom goes broody, now a rare breed on the RBST watchlist.
